A postdoctoral position will be available to work in the area of hypoxia and microRNAs beginning in September 2008 at Indiana University. Our lab is interested in investigating the mechanisms of cellular survival in low oxygen (hypoxic) environments. As microRNAs have various physiological roles that range from controlling growth control in cells to cardiomyopathies, we have previously reported on the importance of microRNAs in the hypoxic environment, which is a hallmark of the tumor microenvironment in cancer. For this position, a strong background in molecular and cellular biology is essential. The research skills of a successful candidate include having experience in DNA cloning, PCR, and protein biochemistry. One should have a familiarity with web-based bioinformatics tools. The successful applicant is expected to be an organized, independent thinker and have a strong publication record. An ability to work in a team environment and be a “good lab citizen” is important.
